RLK Incorporated History

RLK Incorporated was originally founded in 1991 as RLK Associates Ltd., following the acquisition of a successful consulting firm that had been serving municipal engineering clients in the Midwest since 1959. With a focus on serving both the Government and Private sectors in all their commercial and residential needs, co-founders Charles R. Poppler served as CFO and V.P. of Operations, and Richard L. Koppy served as President. RLK Inc. Vice President of Landscape Architecture, John Dietrich, joined RLK as a partner in 1992. The RLK Vice President of Planning, Steve Schwanke, became an RLK partner in 1995.

The company that was to evolve into modern day RLK Incorporated quickly outgrew its original Hopkins, MN location. Civil engineering jobs requiring the expert services of land project planning professionals facilitated the additional hiring of transportation and traffic services personnel, as well as experienced land development and commercial landscape design experts. RLK Incorporated moved to a spacious and beautiful corporate office in Minnetonka, MN, where it is still headquartered.

Following the retirement of co-founder and President Richard Koppy, Steve Schwanke was elected CEO and President of RLK Inc. in 1996. By 1997 RLK was still providing both Private Sector Commercial and Government and Municipal civil engineering services, and to better serve clients throughout the Midwest, opened a second office in Duluth, MN.

At the same time, the original RLK organization merged with Howard A. Kuusisto, an established consulting engineering firm with offices in Hibbing and Mendota Heights. The new company name of RLK-Kuusisto, LTD was adopted, and John P Jamnick became COO of RLK-Kuusisto, Ltd. Original co-founder, Charles R. Poppler was elected President and Chief Executive Officer of RLK-Kuusisto, Ltd. on July, 10, 2000, and leads the company to this date.

The RLK-Kuusisto organization acquired the prestigious survey firm of Caine and Associates in early 2001, thus further expanding to the Ham Lake, MN area. Mr. Jeff Caine is still a valued RLK Inc. employee.

In 2005, RLK-Kuusisto officially changed the corporate name to RLK Incorporated, or RLK, Inc. RLK currently employs over 100 professionals who work together to provide superior personalized consulting services from offices located in five Minnesota locations:
